Philadelphia 6 Montreal 0 (Philadelphia leads 1-0)
Okay so that was pretty bad but I can kinda, sorta convince myself that this loss isn't the end of the world. We looked tired after playing fourteen games against two of the best teams in the league. They looked energized after capping of a historical comeback.
We also lost 6-3 in our first game against Pittsburgh and we still managed to win that somehow. This also had a different feel to it than the last two series' did. We got beaten but it didn't feel like we were playing a superior opponent, just a good opponent who was having a superior game. Mike Leighton looked good but he didn't look that good. We only had two or three good chances all game.
After the first half it looked like we were mailing it in too. Had we played hard for sixty minutes maybe we could have made it 4-1 or something like that but it looked like we gave up on trying to win this one and started working on getting under their skin for the next one. Let's hope it works.
Man, I hate Mike Richards.
Philadelphia 1 Montreal 3 (Philadelphia leads 2-0)
I'm trying really hard to see the silver lining in this one but it's not easy. We've now played 120 consecutive minutes of terrible hockey. The Flyers looked okay, they seem to be well coached and they're really doing a number on our powerplay but we've now had maybe five decent scoring chances all series.
Why am I even watching this? There's so much I could have done instead with all that time. Generally anytime you're engaged in an unpleasant experience it's because you're being paid or because you're doing someone a favour or you're being forced into it or because there's some long term gain or health benefit. I can't think of anything outside of sports that works this way. At no point in these last two horrible hockey games did I actually consider turning them off and that's just weird.
I really can't stand Pronger. I hate him and his stupid oversized helmet/undersized head.
Montreal 5 Philadelphia 1 (Philadelphia leads 2-1)
Ah ha! I knew it, these guys aren't that much better than us, they've just had two games where they controlled the flow of the game and ran away with it. We're just as capable of wiping the floor with them as they are with us. They say you're never in trouble in a series until you lose at home and we haven't lost at home yet. Sure the odds are probably still in their favour but I think the odds are in our favour for the next game and if we win that then we'll have the momentum heading into game five.
Philadelphia 3 Montreal 0 (Philadelphia leads 3-1)
So I was sort of hoping that we wouldn't suck this game and that we'd play well instead of poorly. That way we'd have the series tied up and I'd be very excited about us having a very good chance at making the finals for the first time in my adult life. Oh well I guess that wasn't part of the plan.
It doesn't matter though because now we have the exactly where we want them. We should win the next one because we'll be absolutely desperate, then we'll be coming back to Montreal with the momentum and the crowd on our side. If we win game six we'll be heading back to Philly with tons of momentum, against a team we know we can beat and with the confidence that comes with pulling off the two crazy upsets we've already pulled off.
Then we'll be heading into the finals one of the craziest clutch playoff performances ever and facing a team we match up quite well against.
It's going to be great right? In the end I'll be glad we went down 3-1 because it made the eventual comeback win all that much better.
Philadelphia 4 Montreal 2 (Philadelphia wins the series 4-1)
Brave men also cry. Brave. Men. Also. Cry...
